Dependent visa

No fixed figure. UDI publishes current waiting times, and family immigration cases commonly take several months. Typically granted for up to three years at a time depending on the reference person's status, and never beyond the expiry of the reference person's own permit; renewable. Multiple As long as the permit is valid; renewable while the relationship and conditions continue, and can count toward permanent residence.

Government and VFS fees are paid directly to the authorities in the local currency shown and are subject to change at the discretion of the concerned consulate or embassy; our service fee is in INR and includes appointment booking. What you'll need

Document checklists

Tourist visa β€” document checklist
  • Passport valid at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank pages.
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form, submitted via Norway's online Application Portal, with the visa checklist and appointment confirmation.
  • Two recent passport photographs meeting Schengen/ICAO specifications.
  • Travel medical insurance valid throughout the Schengen area with minimum EUR 30,000 cover, including repatriation, urgent medical care and hospitalisation, covering your whole stay.
  • Flight tickets and a day-by-day travel itinerary.
  • Confirmation of accommodation for the entire stay (hotel bookings, or a host invitation) in Norway and any other Schengen countries you will visit.
  • Proof of sufficient funds through recent personal bank statements; Norway's India mission indicates a minimum of about NOK 500 per day per person.
  • Proof of employment or studies with approved leave: employer letter and recent salary slips, or for the self-employed, business registration/GST proof, plus Income Tax Returns for recent years.
  • Cover letter stating the purpose and dates of your trip.
  • Fingerprints (biometrics) captured at the VFS centre, unless already registered in the previous 59 months.

Business visa β€” document checklist
  • Schengen visa application form, registered online through the UDI application portal, then printed, dated and signed
  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank pages, plus your previous passports
  • Two recent passport photographs to Schengen specification (35x45 mm, light background)
  • Invitation letter from the Norwegian host company stating the purpose, nature and dates of the business visit
  • Covering letter from your Indian employer on company letterhead confirming your designation, the purpose of the trip, approved leave and that you will return to your job
  • Proof of the business relationship, such as correspondence, contracts or trade documents, where applicable
  • Flight tickets and accommodation booking covering the whole stay (do not pay in full until the visa is issued)
  • Personal bank statements for the last 3-6 months, income tax returns (ITR) for the last 2 years and Form 16 for salaried applicants
  • Salary slips for the last 3 months; company registration and GST documents for business owners or self-employed applicants
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay (Norway's guideline is about NOK 500 per day)
  • Travel medical insurance valid across the entire Schengen area for the whole stay, with minimum cover of EUR 30,000 including repatriation for medical reasons
  • Biometrics (photograph and ten fingerprints) given in person at a VFS Global centre for first-time applicants
  • Payment of the Schengen visa fee (currently EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6-12) plus the VFS service fee

Dependent visa β€” document checklist
  • Passport valid for the intended stay, with copies of the relevant pages
  • The cover letter and personalised checklist generated after you complete the online UDI application, printed and signed
  • Recent passport-style photographs meeting UDI's specifications
  • Marriage certificate (for a spouse) or documentation of cohabitation (for a samboer), validly registered and, where required, legalised
  • Birth certificate for a child, showing the parental relationship, plus custody or consent documents where relevant
  • Documentation of the reference person's status in Norway, such as their residence, work or study permit or Norwegian ID
  • Documentation of the reference person's income to show the subsistence requirement, for example employment contract, recent payslips and tax assessment
  • Documentation of suitable housing where the family will live in Norway
  • Proof of the UDI application fee payment and the VFS service-fee receipt
  • Biometrics (photograph and fingerprints) captured at the VFS centre
