Document checklists
Tourist visa β document checklist
- Passport valid for the whole of the intended stay in the UK, plus any previous passports held
- Completed online Standard Visitor visa application and visa application centre appointment confirmation
- Recent passport-style colour photograph meeting UK specifications
- Proof of funds to support the trip, typically personal bank statements for the last 6 months
- Travel details and itinerary, including flight and accommodation bookings
- Proof of accommodation in the UK, or an invitation letter and host details if staying with family or friends
- Evidence of ties to India and intent to return, such as an employment or leave letter, business registration, or proof of studies
- Copies of any previous UK or other visas
Business visa β document checklist
- Passport valid for the whole trip, with a blank page; previous passports to show travel history
- Confirmation of the online GOV.UK application and your VFS Global appointment
- Personal and/or company bank statements showing funds to cover the trip
- Invitation letter from the UK company or organisation stating the purpose, dates and who you will meet
- Covering letter from your Indian employer or your own company confirming your role, the purpose of the trip and who is bearing the costs
- Proof of employment or business β for example company registration/GST details and a leave-approval or role letter
- Meeting schedule, itinerary, or conference/trade-fair registration
- Evidence of ties to India (employment, business, property or family) showing you intend to return
- Accommodation and return or onward travel details
Student visa β document checklist
- Current passport or other valid travel document
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number from your licensed student sponsor
- Proof of funds: first-year tuition plus living costs of Β£1,529/month (London) or Β£1,171/month (outside London) for up to 9 months, held in your account for 28 days in a row, with the closing balance dated within 31 days of applying
- Evidence of English language ability meeting the required CEFR level (SELT result, or an Ecctis-assessed degree taught in English)
- Valid tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from a Home Office-approved clinic in India (required because you will be in the UK for 6+ months); certificate is valid for 6 months
- ATAS certificate if your course and nationality require one (certain postgraduate science and technology subjects)
- Written consent from your parent or guardian, plus proof of relationship, if you are aged 16 or 17
- Written consent from your financial sponsor if an official third party is funding your tuition or living costs
Dependent visa β document checklist
- Valid Indian passport, plus any previous passports.
- The sponsor's proof of UK immigration status: their visa, biometric residence permit or eVisa share code showing they are a Skilled Worker, student, or British/settled person.
- Proof of relationship: marriage or civil partnership certificate, or evidence of at least 2 years living together for unmarried partners (joint tenancy, bills, bank statements).
- Full birth certificate for each child naming both parents, plus consent letters or sole-responsibility evidence where one parent is not travelling.
- Evidence of funds: bank statements showing the required maintenance money held for 28 consecutive days, or the sponsor's income evidence (payslips, employment letter) on the family visa route.
- Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from a Home Office-approved clinic in India, required for stays of 6 months or more.
- English language test certificate at the required level, where applicable on the partner/family route.
- Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) payment confirmation.
- Proof of accommodation in the UK, such as a tenancy agreement or property details.
- Passport-size photographs and biometric enrolment at the visa application centre.
