Slovakia tourist visa
Slovakia sits inside the Schengen area, so an Indian passport opens the door only with a Schengen short-stay visa β the Type C. Once it's stamped in, it does more than admit you to Slovakia: it lets you move freely across the whole Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your file is decided by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi, which hands the paperwork side to its outsourcing partner, VFS Global. You lodge it in person at a VFS Global visa application centre β there are centres in cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad.
One rule decides whether Slovakia is even the right country to apply to: it must be your main destination β where you'll spend the longest time, or where the main purpose of the trip lies. If no single destination stands out that way, Slovakia qualifies only when it's your first point of entry into the Schengen area. Assuming that fits, the embassy reaches a decision within 15 calendar days of receiving your complete application, your fingerprints and the fee, though this can stretch to 45 calendar days in individual cases. Fingerprints are captured at the centre and can be reused for five years.

Visa options for Slovakia
Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) β single entry
The standard tourist visa; first-time applicants are, as a rule, issued a single-entry visa allowing one visit of up to 90 days within its validity.
Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) β multiple entry
Granted to travellers who have documented and respected the rules on previous Schengen trips and can show a need for several entries; allows repeated visits totalling up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
National long-stay visa (Type D)
For stays longer than 90 days; issued as a Slovak national visa and handled separately from the short-stay tourist route, so it is outside the scope of this page.
Documents typically required
- βSchengen visa application form, completed and signed by the applicant
- βPassport issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 90 days beyond the visa's expiry, with at least two blank pages, plus photocopies of the first and last pages
- βTwo recent (under six months) colour photographs on a white background, face covering about 80% of the frame, to ICAO specification
- βTravel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 for all Schengen countries, valid for the entire trip including the arrival and departure dates
- βFlight tickets β a booking is sufficient, as there is no need to buy the ticket until the visa is granted; if visiting several Schengen states, add intra-Schengen transport bookings
- βProof of accommodation: hotel or travel-agency voucher for the Slovakia stay with confirmation of payment, showing the agency's name and address, voucher number, guest names, arrival and departure dates and the services booked
- βCover letter signed by the applicant explaining the purpose of the visit to Slovakia and the full travel itinerary
- βProof of funds: original personal bank statement for the last three months, stamped and signed by the bank, plus Indian income-tax return acknowledgements for the last two assessment years
- βIf employed: salary slips for the last three months, employment contract and the employer's leave-approval letter; if self-employed: the company's certificate of registration
- βFor minor applicants: birth certificate, copies of both parents' passports or ID cards, and notarised consent from any parent not travelling
Your exact checklist depends on your profile β we confirm it during your case analysis. Every visa decision rests with the embassy or consulate.
Slovakia's mission in New Delhi is competent only when Slovakia is your main destination or first point of entry β if you will spend more time in another Schengen country, apply to that country's mission instead. The visa fee is EUR 80 for adults, paid in Indian rupees, plus the VFS Global service charge. Travellers visiting family or friends who are entering the Schengen area for the first time may also need an official invitation or guarantee document verified by the Slovak foreign police; this is not required for hotel-based tourism. After you arrive, third-country nationals must report their stay to the local foreign police within a few days of entry β if you stay in a hotel or registered accommodation, the provider does this for you.
Frequently asked questions
Do you guarantee the visa?
No one honestly can. The decision sits entirely with the Slovak embassy and its consular authorities. What we do is give you a frank read on your case and build the most complete, convincing file possible. Over the last two to three years, our applications have run at a 97% success rate.
How long does a Slovakia Schengen visa take?
Count on about 15 calendar days, measured from the day the embassy has everything in hand β your complete application with all original documents, your fingerprints and the fee. Cases that need a closer look can extend up to 45 calendar days. The consulate always sets the timeline and the outcome; what we offer is a realistic estimate for your case.
Where in India do I apply for a Slovakia tourist visa?
At the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi, which works through VFS Global as its outsourcing partner. You lodge your application in person at a VFS Global visa application centre, with centres in cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad. Turning up in person is required so your fingerprints can be captured.
Can I visit other Schengen countries on this visa?
Yes. A Slovakia-issued Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) is valid across the whole Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The catch is on the application side: route your file through Slovakia only when it is your main destination or, if no main destination can be determined, your first point of entry into the Schengen area.
