Romania tourist visa

Romania is Schengen's newest full member, having joined on 1 January 2025. Since 31 March 2024 it has issued the uniform Schengen short-stay visa (Type C), and that is the visa an Indian passport holder needs to travel there as a tourist. It allows up to 90 days within any 180-day period, and because it is a uniform visa it opens the entire Schengen area of 29 countries, not just Romania.

The process begins online, on Romania's national eViza portal (eviza.mae.ro), where your documents are uploaded for pre-validation. You then appear in person to give biometrics, either at the Romania Visa Application Centre operated by VFS Global in India or at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Romania in New Delhi. That mission covers applicants resident in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan, and the decision on every case rests with the consulate alone. Expect around 15 days for a verdict, though it can stretch to 45 if further checks or documents are required.

Who this visa is for

  • βœ“Indian passport holders travelling to Romania for tourism, sightseeing or visiting friends and family for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
  • βœ“Apply through a Romanian mission when Romania is your main destination (the longest stay); if you split time equally between Schengen states, apply through the country of your first point of entry.
  • βœ“Passport valid at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years, with at least two blank pages.
  • βœ“Proof of sufficient funds of at least EUR 50 per day of stay and not less than EUR 500 (or equivalent).
  • βœ“Travel medical insurance valid across the whole Schengen area with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 for the entire stay.
  • βœ“Evidence of strong ties to India (employment, business, family or property) showing intent to return after the visit.

Your exact checklist depends on your profile β€” we confirm it during your case analysis. Every visa decision rests with the embassy or consulate.

The Embassy of Romania in New Delhi handles applications from residents of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Lodge your application at least 15 days before travel; you may apply up to 6 months in advance. Because Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, its short-stay visa now allows travel throughout the Schengen area.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee the visa?

No β€” and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. The decision rests entirely with the Embassy/Consulate of Romania, and no consultant can guarantee a Schengen visa. What we do is give you a frank, honest read on your profile and build the strongest, best-documented application possible. Over the last 2-3 years our applications have seen a 97% success rate.

Can I visit other Schengen countries on a Romania tourist visa?

Yes. Since Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, its uniform short-stay (Type C) visa carries you across the whole Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Apply through Romania's mission when Romania is your main destination, or your first point of entry into the Schengen area.

How long does processing take?

Usually about 15 days once your file is complete. The consulate can take up to 45 days if additional checks or documents are needed. Apply at least 15 days before you travel β€” you can file up to 6 months ahead.

Is travel medical insurance mandatory?

Yes. Like every Schengen state, Romania requires travel medical insurance that covers the entire Schengen area for your whole stay, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.
