Vietnam tourist visa

Vietnam is one of the easier stamps to earn on an Indian passport, and it starts on a screen rather than at a counter. For tourism the standard route is the Vietnam e-Visa, filed entirely online through the government portal (evisa.gov.vn), with no embassy visit. A 2023 policy shift (Resolution 127/NQ-CP, August 2023) threw the e-Visa open to every nationality, India included. It runs up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, and is honoured at 83 international air, land and sea border gates.

Two other doors exist. A Visa on Arrival turns on a pre-approval letter arranged before you fly, with the visa stamped into your passport at an international airport on landing against a stamping fee. A sticker visa can be obtained from the Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulate General in Mumbai, useful for cases the e-Visa does not cover. One thing to plan around: the e-Visa cannot be extended from inside Vietnam. To stay longer, you exit and apply afresh.

Who this visa is for

  • βœ“Indian passport holders travelling for tourism, sightseeing or short leisure trips
  • βœ“Travellers visiting family or friends resident in Vietnam
  • βœ“Applicants whose planned stay is within 90 days (the e-Visa is not extendable in-country)
  • βœ“Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • βœ“Applicants able to supply a scanned passport bio-data page and a compliant passport photo

Your exact checklist depends on your profile β€” we confirm it during your case analysis. Every visa decision rests with the embassy or consulate.

The e-Visa arrives as a PDF. Carry a printout for airline check-in and Vietnamese immigration. Your arrival border gate is locked into the e-Visa, so confirm your exact port of entry before you apply. If you go the Visa on Arrival route, have the pre-approval letter ready before boarding, as it is checked at the Indian departure airport.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee the visa?

No. The decision rests solely with Vietnam's immigration authority or the issuing embassy. What we do is give you a frank, honest assessment of your case, flag anything that could weaken it, and prepare the strongest possible application. Over the last 2-3 years our applications have carried a 97% success rate.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. An Indian passport holder must hold a valid visa before entering Vietnam. For tourism the usual choice is the online e-Visa, good for up to 90 days on single or multiple entry; a Visa on Arrival and an embassy sticker visa are the alternatives.

Can the Vietnam e-Visa be extended?

No. There is no way to extend it from inside Vietnam. To stay past the granted period, you must leave the country and apply for a fresh e-Visa.

How long does the Vietnam e-Visa take?

The Vietnam Immigration Department clears e-Visas in about 3 working days on average, stretching to 5-7 working days in peak season. Apply well ahead of your travel date.
